Heat Therapy to treat dry eyes

Dry Eye Syndrome is the most frequently diagnosed ophthalmic condition, we spoke about it in this post.
The normal ageing process brings changes to the meibomian gland function and tear composition resulting in painful, gritty and irritating dry eye.
Effective eyelid warming is the primary treatment for MGD.
The MGDRx® EyeBag® was developed in 2004 by British consultant ophthalmologist Mr Teifi James after 15 years experience of treating patients with Meibomian Gland Dysfunction (MGD).
The MGDRx® EyeBag®, a reusable warm compress, which heats quickly and conveniently in a microwave, has been registered as a class 1 medical device with the Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) since 2005. Teifi James was granted a patent for his invention in 2009.
Improving the quality of life for dry eye patients, the MGDRx® EyeBag® has been purchased by over 500,000 users and in a recent survey, more than 90% found the EyeBag® to be better than a hot wet flannel and would recommend the product to a friend or relative.

Vista partners with Henry Smith and Hamilton opticians for 2017

Sight loss charity Vista has officially partnered with local opticians Henry Smith and Hamylton, starting off a year of fundraising for the charity.

The charity and the opticians have been linked for many years. They recently collaborated in the introduction of groundbreaking spectacle lenses, designed to improve vision in people with Macular Degeneration.

In celebration of Henry Smith and Hamylton’s 130th anniversary, the family-based opticians will be aiming to raise money for Vista with various fundraising activities throughout the year.

Becky Poole, Community and Corporate Fundraiser, said “This is an incredibly exciting partnership – to celebrate 130 years of Henry Smith and Hamylton, we have created a calendar of fundraising activities to raise vital funds for local people with sight loss.”

“From March until June, each colleague has pledged to walk 130 virtual miles in aid of Vista, which is the equivalent of walking from Leicester’s Haymarket Memorial Clock Tower to Brighton Pier!”

“Please show your support for Henry Smith and Hamylton on their fundraising journey.”

If you would like to show your support, get in touch with Vista’s fundraising team on 0116 249 8801 or fundraising@vistablind.org.uk, or visit HSH’s JustGiving page at https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/Henry-Smith130

Piet Mondrian and Neo-plasticism Inspire RayBan’s New Colour-Block Wayfarer

Take an iconic style and mix in some artistic Dutch flare and you get the Piet Mondiran inspired RayBan Wayfarer.

Mondrian evolved his form of art to consist of white background, upon which was painted a grid of vertical and horizontal black lines and the three primary colours.

RayBan has followed suit and incorporated Mondrian’s use of colour and shapes in their exclusive Colour-Block Wayfarer. With hues of blue, red, yellow & orange, the patterns look absolutely stunning in the sunlight.

Ray Ban is available at all Henry Smith & Hamylton Practices.

Google X reported in The Times Paper and throughout the internet this week

Rumour, and at present that is all that can be said that by the end of this year our smart display seen on Android phones will soon be backlit on special spectacles being prepared by Google. It is believed to be planning this new mobile device, a pair of glasses that will relay all the information of a phone straight to your eyes.

Reports from many gismo internet sites suggest that Google will release the high-tech spectacles by the end of the year. The normal lenses will have screens that sit a few centimetres from a user’s eyes.
The New York Times has suggested that the mobile glasses will cost between $250 and $600 (£160-£380).

Google declined to comment.

Though the concept sounds outlandish, it is known that the company has created a grand new project dubbed “Google X” at its campus in Mountain View, California.
